Candice Kim

Born and raised in LA, I re-discovered yoga after graduating from college in San Diego and returning home to begin working full-time. After years of being on-and-off with my fitness routine, I decided it was time to finally commit to a practice that would inspire and motivate me to live a healthier and more active lifestyle. Remembering that yoga had always offered me a space to not only improve my physical well-being, but also to re-center & truly clear my mind - it was only natural that I gravitated towards it as my practice of choice.

I initially came to Hot 8 to take advantage of the free week of classes to motivate myself to get back into yoga, while giving myself the added challenge of practicing in the heat; what I found was something much more special. Hot 8 immediately drew me in with the beautiful & authentic energy that each instructor brought to his or her class, and the sense of community that I found myself walking into every time I stepped onto my mat. Having been a space of growth and transformation for me during a pivotal time in my life, Hot 8 has continued to be my home away from home.

The more I committed to my practice, the more invested and dedicated I became to the idea of moving with intention and integrity. I found myself wanting to deepen my practice further and learn how to guide others to work more mindfully on & off of their mats. Feeling a connection with Yoga Barre in particular, I completed my Yoga Barre certification in 2017 under the incredible guidance and mentorship of Nancy Norby and Briana DeFalco. I am so honored and excited to join the Hot 8 family and hold space with the community in a practice that I love so much. My goal is to provide a space that benefits everyone's intentions: whether that intention is to have a great workout, mental detox, or anything in between; and to encourage the practice of setting an intention for yourself to carry off the mat as well. Brittany Churchill

Brittany Churchill began her passion for dance and movement starting at age 3. She trained through the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Examination completing both children’s and professional classical ballet training under the guidance of Jennifer James Church and the Academy of Dance Arts (NJ). Brittany then became a Full Fellowship Scholar at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre (NYC). In 2012, Brittany earned her Bachelors in Fine Arts in Dance and a Bachelors of Science in Marketing from the University of Arizona (AZ). She is working to complete her Masters in Higher Education in May 2018.

Since moving to LA, Brittany has deepened her Yoga practice beyond the dance training. Inspired by her fellow dancer and friend, Ava Moreno, Brittany dove head first into Yoga Barre and completely fell in love with Hot Yoga Barre and the Hot 8 Community. Brittany completed her 50Hr Teacher Training under Nancy Norby and mentorship of Briana DeFalco. Brittany’s most recent yoga adventure was the completion of 50Hr Vibe training under Omar Lopez. Brittany is excited to continue on this yoga journey, dive deeper into practice, explore connection and discover so much more!

Brittany is so thankful to find the beautiful Hot 8 community she was seeking. Hot 8 has allowed her to build connections outside of her professional life and feel rooted in a new community after moving to LA. Brittany hopes to share this sense of community in every class and motivate others to expand their practice through class, workshops and teacher training. She is truly honored to have learned from such passionate and dedicated yogis and hopes to carry on their inspiration into class. Her classes combine her dance background, her love of music and fun!

Jessica Cipperly

When Jessica moved to California in 2012, she was searching for something to be a part of. All it took was one barre class at Hot 8 Yoga and she was hooked. It was everything she wanted in a workout and the warmth and kindness of the people in the studio just drew her in more. When the chance to take Nancy's Barre teacher training presented itself, she knew she had to do it. Since then she has also completed the YogaSculpt and YogaVibe trainings as well. Not only has this studio changed her body for the better, it has also changed her soul. She hopes to instill these same positive changes in those she teaches. As an architect by trade, Jessica has a passion for form, function, and beauty. She brings this passion to her classes helping to shape the building blocks of the body with flow, movement, and most of all... fun!
When not in the the studio or designing buildings Jessica can be found backpacking through the mountains or exploring the world, absorbing as much beauty, nature, different cultures and new experiences that she can.

Ava Moreno

Ava Moreno entered the yoga and fitness community through her first love: dance. She began her dance training as a toddler, training in all forms of dance. After having struggled with a severe eating disorder when she began her professional dance career at age 16, Ava found Colleen Quinn, an incredible mentor and inspiration to her through the form of a personal trainer. Ava has also struggled with several injuries in dance due to her hypermobility, including a medial patellofemoral ligament knee reconstruction at age 20, leading her to look into deeper ways of understanding and helping her body. Although Ava had first been introduced to yoga at age 11 through dance, it was not until she entered recovery from her eating disorder that she began practicing regularly, discovering the peace, focus, and stability--both physically and mentally--it brought her. Throughout her recovery, Ava studied nutrition and began to explore the yoga, fitness, and wellness world.

Inspired by her trainer, Colleen, Ava went on to receive her personal training certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Shortly after, at the age of 20, she completed her RYT 200-hour yoga teacher training with David Vendetti and Todd Skoglund of South Boston Yoga in 2014. Her training certified her through Yoga Alliance in vinyasa, restorative, and prenatal yoga. Ava is passionate about helping others find their own physical, mental, and emotional strength through physical movement. Yoga and personal training are her methods of doing so, with her background and current career in dance as an advantage. Ava is always eager to learn more from those around her, including her clients and students. She understands that each student and client has a different body, with a different structure, which affects not only movement and range of motion, but also the movement pathways the body takes. Ava’s philosophy for her teaching and training is to recognize and tap into your own individual needs as a student to be able to find a balance of push and pull, challenge and ease, and growth and grounding.

Ava moved to Los Angeles in March 2016 to pursue her passions of dance, yoga and fitness. When she found Hot 8 Yoga and her incredible mentors Jonatan Silva and Briana DeFalco, she knew she knew she found the perfect environment to blend her worlds and reach others at the same time. Ava is thrilled and humbled to be working with and along side such inspiring teachers and students, and is excited to share her passion in the studio!

 

Tim Oakes

A San Diego native, I moved up to Los Angeles in pursuit of a college education. I studied at UCLA and completed my B.S. in Psychobiology in 2013. During my time at UCLA, I managed the Women’s NCAA Swim & Dive program. I think the combination of my psychology background and involvement in college-level athletics sparked my interest in the physical body as well as the mind. One of the most interesting classes I took at UCLA was Stress & Bodily Disease. In it we discussed the correlations between different stimuli (positive or negative) we subject our minds and bodies to and how it ultimately affects our quality of life. I’ve always been invested in personal growth and have a deep-seated hunger to learn. I think underlying all of this is an innate personal desire to understand all the inner-workings of life itself.

I found Hot 8 Yoga through a friend, and began my intro offer back in April of 2014. I quickly became hooked by the intense physical, mental, and spiritual workout I was engaging in. Yoga at Hot 8 Yoga was the first workout I became fully immersed in. I love that one’s yoga practice can be anything he/she needs it to be. Some days I come to my mat needing an intense physical workout – other days I need to engage my mind. Luckily there is everything from Yoga Barre to Hot Yoga, from Yin to Sculpt. I love the fact that I can pick and choose which classes I want to take based on the mood I’m in that day. No class-discrimination here!

Omar Lopez

Omar Lopez combines yoga, dance and martial arts to soulful sounds and ancestral rhythms to provide a unique platform of movement meditation.

Omar is formerly a feature choreographer and dancer for several multi platinum selling entertainment icons such as Janet Jackson, Madonna, Mary J Blige, P. Diddy Ricky Martin, Pink and Usher ...just to name a few.

At present Mr. Lopez holds certifications with The national Academy of Sports Medicine ( NASM ), YOGA ALLIANCE, 200 hr cert. EARTHS POWER YOGA and is a dedicated practitioner of GRACIE JIU JITSU.

Omar's classes will challenge the warrior spirit while allowing the practitioner to do so in a safe space of spiritual liberation and self expression.

Rhythmic-based power class in which sequences are executed to various tempos and intensities. Each class is accompanied with its own carefully crafted playlist and theme. At its peak, the sequence is linked to the beat of the music challenging balance, core strength, endurance and stamina. Candles, dim lights and soulful sounds set the vibe for the class. In this challenging tempo-based class, expect less alignment cues and some fast paced movement to music to help remain grounded in your experience. Class created by Omar Lopez. 🔥 🔥
