26 & 2 -1hr

This class is taught by:

Mike Averill

Mike was born and raised in Colorado. Having been a gymnast for much of his young life, investigating the mind-body connection has long been a passion. Yoga cemented a place in Mike's life initially as a way to manage stress, but grew into a much deeper exploration of the human experience. Mike hopes to inspire this same curiosity for life in others.

Mike completed his 200 hour Yoga Alliance certification under the guidance of Francesca Asumah, is in the process of receiving his 500 hour certification, and has also trained with Julia Planine-Troiani, Deanna Ainsworth, Rebekah Rivera, Brit Middleton, Cornelius Jones Jr., and Jonatan Silva, among others.

Chelsea Mallon

Chelsea Mallon started practicing yoga about a decade ago, but it wasn't until her discovery of the heat, and the loving, beautiful community at Hot 8 Yoga, that she became truly devoted to her yogic path. Chelsea is so glad that she began her journey through teaching training at Hot 8 Yoga. She derived a wealth of knowledge, and is very excited to radiate her passion for Hot Yoga to others. She graduated from USC with a double bachelor's degree in psychology and theatre. She has always been fascinated by the mind, body, and soul connection, and Hot Yoga gave her space to explore those interests in an experiential way that has been nothing short of life-changing. A few years ago after being involved in a bad car accident, she found herself with injuries, chronic pain, and anxiety like she'd never experienced before. She attributes Hot Yoga to being integral to her healing process, and would not have as many smiles or pain-free days were it not for this amazing practice. Because of the gifts- both internally and externally that she has received from Hot Yoga, she felt called to give back by becoming a teacher.

"I think that it's particularly important in a hot yoga practice to find the balance- effort and intensity are integral to this sequence, but so is stillness and listening to your body."~ Chelsea Mallon

Karli McGuiness

Karli McGuiness is a 4th generation yogi from a line of Hatha, Ashtanga, Kundalini, and Bikram Yoga teachers. She followed in her family’s footsteps in 2010 when she took part in the National Asana Competition and attended Bikram’s Teacher Training. She has been teaching internationally ever since. Although she respects and loves all styles of yoga, Bikram, Vinyasa and Yin yoga have had the most profound positive impacts on her life; making them an offering that she feels privileged to share with her students. Fascinated by the anatomical and biological benefits of yoga, Karli continues to research the latest scientific findings in order to enrich her teaching of the practice.

Karli has done a lot of independent research to discover why yoga is so effective on an anatomical level. Conducting interviews with Barnard and Columbia University neuroscientists and with “Pure Action” based in Texas, has aided in her goal to expand her love for yoga into the scientific realm. You'll see that some of her yoga influences like Vinyasa, Dharma, Ashtanga, and Restorative have a place in these sequences. She strongly believes that there is a big benefit from practicing all styles of yoga, whichever resonates with you!

Amanda Bleich

Amanda is a native New Yorker, and her greatest love and passion before she discovered yoga was dance. It was her Ballet teacher's partner who first brought her to yoga class many years ago to open her horizons. It was not love at first asana, but something stuck. She brings the discipline, dedication and grace of the dance world to the hot room. She loves the practice of 26x2 because it will always push both the teacher and student to an unexpected and unimaginable place.

Stephan Schubert

Stephan has been practicing yoga for some years now, but really fell in love with it and the sweat more recently in the Big Apple. Drawn to Hot Yoga by its athletic aspects he also found concentration and focus, something that helps him as a performer and a human being on many levels. After arriving in LA and finding the clarity, support and warmth (!) of Hot8, it was time to deepen the practice here; and Julia, Dakota and Brit have been wonderful teachers. He is excited about what this journey will bring next and to explore it with other practitioners, students and teachers.
This class is a 60 minute set sequence of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises. There are 2 sets of the standing series and 1 set of the floor series. Class is composed of a standing series followed by a floor series where each posture is done twice. Through discipline and structure, this class allows students to gain strength, flexibility and balance. Conducted without music, 26 & 2 assists in developing the concentration needed for meditation and proper alignment. 🔥 🔥
