HOW 26&2 CHANGED EVERYTHING FOR ME

When I look at my yoga mat, I see a magic carpet . For 90 minutes I can fly, fall, twist and turn. There are certain postures where I feel like I’m swimming in the Pacific or floating in space among the expanding stars.  It’s wild!

The first time I stepped into a hot room to practice 26&2, I had no idea it would guide me a lot like the GPS on my phone… turn left, hinge forward, pick up your foot etc. Those yogic directions  have led me to the greatest moments of my life and helped me negotiate the most tragic ones.

If you’re reading this, you probably know what I’m talking about, if you don't — Yoga, for me, is a tool. Almost a secret weapon we can activate when we tap into our breath and figure out how to let go and just surrender. No matter what.

Teacher Training at Hot 8 yoga has given me a voice in my yoga practice and added a new dimension to how I see myself, how I forgive myself, and how I love myself.

Self love is a practice that we can often pass by because we have a destination. Through a consistent 26&2 practice, I have finally begun to understand it IS the destination.

Meet Our Newest Studio Female Leader!

At Hot 8 Yoga, each of our six studios is led by strong, inspiring and magnificent women. We asked them all to talk a little about themselves and their work in empowering women through their leadership!

Meet Mariam Sufi who runs Hot 8 Yoga Koreatown, open for three months.

Mariam has taught and worked at Hot 8 Yoga for 2 years and stepped up to manage Hot 8 Yoga Koreatown as a first time manager. Hot 8 Yoga Koreatown is such a warm place because of Mariam and her leadership.

Here's a little more about Mariam:

1. What advice will you give to your younger self?

Mariam: If I could tell my younger self anything it would be to not second guess my goals. I spent a great deal of time in my 20s being unsure of whether my decisions fit the perfect model of what I thought I should be. The reality is that we all have our own dreams, and it is ok if they are different than what is expected of us. Sometimes the perfect path for you is the one filled with all the bumps in the road because it teaches you how to believe in yourself and to be resilient when obstacles come your way. Trust yourself and your intentions and remind yourself that you are capable of doing anything you want as long as you believe in yourself.

2. What's your favorite part about being a female leader?

Mariam: I am blessed to interact with so many inspiring women on a daily basis. It is not only humbling to be amongst such talented females, but it is energizing. I have the opportunity to listen, watch, nurture, and encourage in my role, and in the midst of doing so, I am constantly learning how to be a better person, a stronger woman, and a mindful leader.

3. Can you tell me how your work aligns with women empowerment?

Mariam: Hot 8 Yoga emphasizes the importance of a safe space, encouraging community, and growth without judgment. As a woman in the 21st Century, what better environment to work in than one that exemplifies diversity, unity, mindfulness, and an open, free space for anyone of any walk of life to feel supported. Hot 8 Yoga is a place where we are encouraged to be a voice, to be heard, to listen, to share, to trust, to respect, and to thrive. That is exactly the essence of what it means to feel empowered as a female.

Sherman Oaks Hot 8 Yoga Run By Female Warriors!

At Hot 8 Yoga, each of our six studios is led by strong, inspiring and magnificent women. We asked them all to talk a little about themselves and their work in empowering women through their leadership!

Meet Rachel Eden and Adriana Benevento who run Hot 8 Yoga Pasadena, open for one year.

Rachel has taught and worked at Hot 8 Yoga for 3 years and managed Hot 8 Yoga Manhattan Beach before heading up Sherman Oaks and Adriana has worked at Hot 8 Yoga for 1 year and is a first time manager. Hot 8 Yoga Sherman Oaks is lucky to be run by these women!

Here's a little more about them:

1. What advice will you give to your younger self?

Rachel: Don't sweat the small stuff. I used to believe that once everything fell into place just as I wanted it to be that I would feel OK. It wasn't until I felt OK regardless of what was happening that everything started to fall into place.

Adriana: The best advice I could give my younger self is that you can always make changes to your life. Change is good! Every time I wasn’t happy with a direction my life was taking, I was always hesitant to make any kind of change. I was under the impression that you had to stick to your decisions, even if they weren’t serving you well. However, every time I mustered up the courage to make a positive change in my life, it brought relief and clarity. I wouldn’t be where I am today if I wasn’t brave enough to take charge and make changes as I saw fit.

2. What's your favorite part about being a female leader?

Rachel: My favorite part about being a female leader are all the other female leaders I get to work with! We have such an incredible, unstoppable, group of bad ass women that run Hot 8 Yoga. They inspire me everyday to work harder than the day before, to be better than the day before. They remind me that in our small acts of kindness and resiliency we can change the world - one moment at a time.

Adriana: My favorite part about being a female leader is the perseverance it took to get here! It takes confidence, adaptability, and courage to set goals for yourself and reach them. And with the right support and positive environment, you can and will be successful as a female leader.

3. Can you tell me how your work aligns with women empowerment?

Rachel: My work aligns with female empowerment in so many different ways. Namely, I get to empower other women. Being able to lead by example and show other women that it can be done, is one of my favorite parts of my job. I also get to foster other talented women and watch them grow.

Adriana: In the time that I’ve been a female leader, I have always tried to avoid doubting myself. And that comes from not only having people around me that truly believe in me, but also knowing how much I believe in myself. I feel so lucky that I work in a place where I can be surrounded by such an inspiring group of female leaders. I trust myself and my abilities to tackle anything in the workplace that may come my way. I am confident, I am capable, and I can.

Thank You Rachel and Adriana for all you do!

Hot 8 Yoga Pasadena Women Run Things!

At Hot 8 Yoga, each of our six studios is led by strong, inspiring and magnificent women. We asked them all to talk a little about themselves and their work in empowering women through their leadership!

Meet Devon Riesenbeck and Britney Woods who run Hot 8 Yoga Pasadena, open for two years this summer.

Devon has taught and worked at Hot 8 Yoga for 3 years and is in her first year as a manager of the Hot 8 Yoga Pasadena and Britney has worked at Hot 8 Yoga for 4 years and is also a first time manager. Hot 8 Yoga Pasadena feels like home because of these women!

Here's a little more about them:

1. What advice will you give to your younger self?

Devon:  I would tell myself not to create boundaries or limitations that didn't exist. To fully go for what I want, forgetting about a plan b or what anyone else might think.

Britney: I would tell her to trust the process and know that she is where she needs to be. Everything happens for a reason and her grandmother raised a strong queen.

2. What's your favorite part about being a female leader?

Devon: That there is a connection with other women in these leadership roles, that we lift each other up and look out for one another.

Britney: I get to impact so many different lives every day, by spreading love and kindness through health and wellness.

3. Can you tell me how your work aligns with women empowerment?

Devon: Hot 8 has majority female employees, and every single woman is completely unique in her own way. So to be able to empower not just one but all types of women to go for what they want is what feminism means to me.

Britney: I have a passion for women's studies and women's rights. I think being a girl boss empowers me everyday, as I am surrounded by a management team that is lead by majority women. It make me feel good because we are all intelligent, fierce, and a force to be reckoned with.

We are grateful for all that they do!

Manhattan Beach Female Empowerment!

At Hot 8 Yoga, each of our six studios is led by strong, inspiring and magnificent women. We asked them all to talk a little about themselves and their work in empowering women through their leadership!

Meet Kimberly Driscoll who runs Hot 8 Yoga Manhattan Beach, open for 3 years.

Kimberly has taught at Hot 8 Yoga for 4 years and is in her first year as a manager of the Hot 8 Yoga Beach House. Hot 8 Yoga is better because she is here!

Here's a little more about her:

1. What advice will you give to your younger self?

Kimberly: Don't spend so much time trying to please people or be what they think you're supposed to be. It is your life to live. Don't seek perfection, seek purpose.

2. What's your favorite part about being a female leader?

Kimberly: Where do I begin? Being a female leader is humbling and fills me with so much pride. My favorite part about it is helping others step into their potential. Also to empower them to realize who they are is enough to succeed, as long as they put in the work and get up more times than they fall down.

3. Can you tell me how your work aligns with women empowerment?

Kimberly: As a female Yoga Director/Manager my job is to seek out the best in everyone. My goal is to give everyone equal opportunities. I work with a lot of women who are strong, inspiring and beyond capable. My work aligns with women empowerment because, I want the women I work with to see their gifts and use them create equal opportunities for all.

Thank you for all you do Kimberly!

Meet Our Beverly Hills Women Leaders

At Hot 8 Yoga, each of our six studios is led by strong, inspiring and magnificent women. We asked them all to talk a little about themselves and their work in empowering women through their leadership!

Meet Briana DeFalco and April Eaton who run Hot 8 Yoga Beverly Hills, open for 6 years.

Briana has managed Manhattan Beach and Beverly Hills and has worked at Hot 8 Yoga for the last 6 years  and April started as manager for Hot 8 Santa Monica and moved over to Beverly Hills two years ago.

Here's a little more about them:

1. What advice will you give to your younger self?

Briana: "Perseverance is the key to success." Everything you are going through and experiencing now will help you grow and flourish into a stronger woman, making you a more compassionate and perceptive person in the future.

April: I'd tell her to believe in herself more and not let the worries or fears of other opinions weigh on her decisions. Practice more self love.

2. What's your favorite part about being a female leader?

Briana: To be in a position where I can help others reach their goals. I'm the biggest advocate of helping someone find their highest self in whatever capacity that means to them. The chance to be able to do just that, keeps me humble and grateful for the possibility to be able to offer someone that support and encouragement. I want to inspire other women to feel fearless in their pursuit to what makes them feel inspired!

April: Getting to support and help build up confidence of the other females around me and see them step into becoming a leader themselves.

3. Can you tell me how your work aligns with women empowerment?

Briana: I work with so many incredible women who all share their passion with the yoga community. I'm so honored to be able to have the opportunity to share space with all of the wonderful women who work at Hot 8 Yoga and I'm truly their number one supporter and I hope they can feel how much I do genuinely want that for them!

April: I get to work on a daily basis with women who are at so many different stages of their life and their fitness journey. Having the ability to bring these people all into one space and interact through mutual positive goals is exciting and I love to see how everyone progresses with support from each other.

The Women Who Lead Hot 8 Yoga Santa Monica

At Hot 8 Yoga, each of our six studios is led by strong, inspiring and capable women. We asked them all to talk a little about themselves and their work in empowering women through their leadership!

Meet Erin King and Deanna Ainsworth who run Hot 8 Yoga Santa Monica, the original Hot 8 Yoga open for 8 years.

Deanna was the first employee at Hot 8 Yoga and Erin has managed Hot 8 Santa Monica for two years.

Here's a little more about them:

1. What advice will you give to your younger self?

Erin: Live it up! Time flies. Have fun and don't sweat the small stuff. Everything will work out. There will be plenty of time for adulting later on :)

Deanna: Be kind and compassionate no matter the circumstance. Yes, there are times to have clear boundaries and I have experienced the transforming power of what kindness and compassion can do. It gives an opportunity for those, who choose to, to step into responsibility to self correct...at least it does the least harm.

2. What's your favorite part about being a female leader?

Erin: I love meeting like-minded people and watching them grow! I'm truly inspired everyday by the people I work with. As a leader, my job is essentially to create new leaders and empower people. It's such a joy to witness a team grow and blossom together, and to top it all off we get to do yoga together! It really is special.

Deanna: To see women let go of false perceptions and align with their life path. I have seen women turn their entire life around and are now leaders in the community. I am grateful to be a part of their journey only to remind them of what they have to give and to believe in themselves.

3. Can you tell me how your work aligns with women empowerment?

Erin: The yoga industry is predominantly run by women, so I see women being empowered every day and it's so inspiring. Personally, working in this industry has empowered me as well. It has changed the way I eat, how I take care of my body, and my life perspective. As long as I take care of myself, I can be of service to others and continue to empower women in the industry!

Deanna: Being a Yoga Director is an incredible gift. I can work with so many women on what blocks them from their truth. When they feel connected and aligned within they can be a clear role model for others. This is a powerful time to return to the heart and to raise our vibration to live in harmony and cooperation.  I feel Hot 8 Yoga is a place where one feels a sense of community and support to do this work.

A Yoga Class For Every Mood

Yoga for every mood: find the class for you!

You may find yourself in this place: you’ve just been in the mood to take a specific style of class regularly. And maybe a month before, you were in entirely different classes. Whatever your mood, whatever your preference, there’s a class for that! If maybe you’ve found yourself in the same class over and over, it might be time for you to try something new. You never know what you might find within yourself.

You can find a class to ease your sore muscles or injuries, you might find a classes that completely relaxes your mind, or maybe a class that pushes you mentally or physically. Whatever your mood, whatever your preference, whatever journey you may be on, there’s a class for that! Just in case you may need helping finding that class, here’s a breakdown of some of our classes that may help:

Hot Power Fusion:

Feeling a little unbalanced? This class is a great way to practice your stability! If you are recovering from any kind of shoulder injury, we skip chaturangas in this fusion of a flow class. But don’t worry, still plenty of movement and lots of compression!

Power 1:

Although this is a beginner friendly class, it is always a great idea to get back to the basics. This sequence moves nice and slow and breaks down the foundation of a vinyasa flow class. Just because it’s slower, doesn’t mean it’s easier (hello muscles - thank you for keeping me in these holds).

Power:

Sometimes you just need to flow! What so great about this class is that with every instructor you take, you will get a different experience. You will move, you will deepen your practice, and most importantly: you will breathe.

26&2:

Your mind needs a challenge too. 90 minutes in a hot room, 26 postures, and nothing but you and your mat. Yes this class can be physically challenging, but what’s truly at work in your focus, your intentions, and your edge.

Sculpt:

Is there really anything better than pushing past your limits? High energy, loud music, and yes WEIGHTS! Maybe you need to blow of some steam, this truly is a fun and healthy way to do that.

Yoga Barre:

Another high energy class, yes we love it! But maybe today you want to really focus on strengthening your lower body and legs! Yoga Barre is absolutely a full-body workout, not to fool you. But we’ve never passed on extra booty work.

Yoga Vibe:

Let’s just lose ourselves in the music. Doesn’t that sound great? This class never stops moving, flowing, and building. Such a fun twist on a vinyasa class if you’re in the mood to change it up!

Yin:

As great as a Yin class feels, it is also important to balance out your regular heavy practice with time to deeply stretch your muscles and tendons. Be sure to check out when we offer our special Yin & Sound Bath classes! You can cleanse yourself and your mind with the vibrations from big beautiful gongs and sound bowls.

Aparigraha, part of the 8 limbs of Yoga, speaks of non attachment.

Maybe it’s time to try a class you’ve never taken before, or maybe a class that you’ve been too nervous to try. You may surprise yourself with just how strong you are.
