Ashtanga is a style of yoga founded and developed by guruji, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Often referred to as the grandfather of all modern day vinyasa yoga, Ashtanga yoga is a physical form of yoga that synchronizes movement with breath, dristhi and bandha through a precise sequence of postures called the primary series. Each posture in the sequence is a preparation for the next, and traditionally should always be practiced in order. The intention of the practice is to cleanse, stretch and strengthen the body, as well as focus and calm the mind. In this workshop we will move into the postures of the primary series in a safe and effective manner.

In this 2 Hour workshop, we will cultivate new backbending practices and deepen existing ones. Join us in a body-warming flow to limber up the spine, strengthen the abdominals and back, and prepare the body for safely exploring backbends. Gain confidence grounded in knowledge as we explore the anatomy of how we expand and lengthen through the front-body so we can bend the back-body.
We'll discuss some of the emotions that overflow from within us when we practice backbends — these emotions can be both rational and irrational. By acknowledging our emotions, we can gain some control over our back bending experience.
All levels encouraged to join. Everyone can benefit from expanding their heart-space.

In this unique anatomy training, discover how anatomy anchors our perception and experience of the world. Sarah presents a new framework from which to understand the complexity of the body. Explore how anatomy is effected by psychology, anthropology, and philosophy and how these factors weave together to form our experiences. Within this new model, learn the anatomical details behind concepts such as grounding, relating to others, finding balance, and feeling centered. Applying this fresh perspective to your asana practice and in your daily living, you will engage in your life process with more clarity. This is an anatomy training that goes beyond static identification of bones and muscles. Instead, it reaches into the questions that brought you to yoga and brings you precision and depth of information to feed you on your journey. Sarah has used her anatomy knowledge and the therapeutic benefits of yoga for recovery, pain management, and trauma. She works with students who have, and have had, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injuries, amputations, visual impairments, spinal chord injury, chronic pain, and/or nerve damage. She has partnered with the Accessible Yoga Movement in Santa Barbara to become one of the organization’s first Accessible Yoga Ambassadors.

Earlier this year we held a 2-hour hands-on ‘How to Work with Crystals’ introductory workshop. We examined crystal properties, covered cleaning, clearing, and charging methods plus crystals for intention setting, manifestation work, koshas, and chakras.
In this upcoming workshop, we will work with crystals for meditation and healing.
Crystals and stones have been used for healing purposes by ancient civilizations for thousands of years. The body and quartz are both made up of silicon-dioxide (a mineral). The composition/sacred geometry of crystals naturally resonates with the vibration of your subtle bodies (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual) and helps transmit your prana, life force, more freely/openly throughout the body.
Crystals are conduits for healing (to make sound, whole and healthy). They: 1. Facilitate & balance energy flow by moving stagnate energies, calming overly rapid energies, focusing or diffusing energies. 2. Transmit, absorb and release particular energies to/from the body. 3. Help release physical, mental, and emotional blockages. 4. Alleviate physical pain, help clear up ailments, and calm the mind and nervous system.
In yoga, one of the main reasons we move through poses and shapes is to prepare the body for meditation. Incorporating crystals into our yoga and meditation practices can further help balance our chakras (energy centers) and bodies. Crystals allow us to settle into a meditative brain state and connect deeply with self and all that is.
This workshop is hands-on. We will work with crystals in the hands and on the body. Workshop to include guided meditation, healing, and breathwork techniques incorporating these beauties and healers of the Earth.
All are welcome! No prior crystal/stone experience or prerequisites needed.
To Bring/Wear: Loose, comfortable clothing and bring your own crystals, stones and sacred objects to charge. Workshop will be non-heated.
